Why a KTL Sports Floor Is a Good Investment

– Even in the Bigger Picture

A new sports floor is an important investment. Therefore, it makes sense to calculate the total cost of ownership of your sports floor and not just the cost of acquisition. For example, buying the cheapest sports floor might not always be the cheapest solution if the lifespan of the cheapest floor is much shorter than the lifespan of a high-quality floor.

Total Cost of Ownership of a KTL Sports Floor

KTL sports floors require less maintenance than the average sports floor while having an extended lifespan of about 50 years – whereas the average wooden sports floor has a typical lifespan of 20-30 years.

In a total cost of ownership calculation, you are looking at all costs involved in the lifespan of your floor:

Reduced Installation Costs

KTL floorboards are produced with a moisture content customized to suit the local climatic conditions within the hall. Therefore, the floorboards can be taken out of the box and installed straight away.
Your new floor is completely sealed and will have minimum expansion or shrinkage. For this reason, no built-in gaps for expansion allowance are needed, thus avoiding moisture or dirt gathering in the gaps.
Most wooden floors need conditioning on-site. However, with KTL sports floors no conditioning is needed and no sanding with large dust nuisances as a result. All of this means that you save both time and money not having to close your hall for weeks to allow for conditioning, sanding, and drying your new floor while installing it.

Lower Maintenance Costs

Whereas most sports floors need recoating every 2-3 years, KTL sports floors doesn’t need its first recoating before after typically 12 years. The reason is its unique 7-layer UV-coating, offering a wear resistance 3 times higher than traditional soft lacquer systems.

Furthermore, KTL solid wooden sports floors are assembled from finger jointed staves, fully glued and sealed on all sides and ends, giving the floor a high resistance to water.

Also after a full surface renovation including sanding to bare wood + recoating, the floor can be cleaned more effectively/aggressively than other wooden floors, reducing time spent cleaning the floor and ongoing operating costs as well. You can even use a man-driven scrubber for cleaning, making your cleaning procedure effortless and time-effective.

The annual costs for cleaning a KTL sports floor may be up to 20-30% lower vs cleaning of an average wooden floor with non-fingerjointed strips / boards and where usage of a scrubber is not acceptable.

In sum, cleaning costs of a KTL sports floor will be lower than those of a standard wooden sports floor.

The chart below illustrates the total cost of ownership of a KTL sports floor vs a standard wooden sports floor, in a 25years perspective. Furthermore, the costs have been projected for a comparison over 50years.

Lifecycle Analysis – 50years in service and then what?

KTL sports floors are all made from solid wood, and therefore be recycled into particleboards, which leaves the carbon footprint for disposal after service, neutral.

KTL sports floors are easily installed and at high speed – without compromising on the quality.

Our portable floors can be installed at a speed of 25m2/manhour (I.e. a full 700 m 2 basketball court within 3 hours with a team of 6). The court is already pre-painted with game lines, logos and colored fields like 3-point areas and sec areas). The game can begin straight away!

Our FlexiPRO 12 fixed floor system can be installed at a speed of 50-60m2/man/day
(I.e. a 700m2 basketball court in 2 working days with a team of 6). Once the game lines are applied on top of the UV-factory finish and cured, the game can begin.
